Tanka of Gesar and his Retinue
The heroes of Gesar’s epic each have their own personal sagas, distinctive powers, and complex portraits. In this tanka a few of the women and most of the major male figures, gods and humans, are represented together with their magical flying, talking horses. The legends or notes on these tankas give them two and four verse descriptions. Here we can find, among other groups the thirty Mighty Warriors (dPa thul) and their sub-divisions, the seven Yang thul or Super Warriors and the even more doughty Zhe thul, Ultimate Warriors along with a few of the Supernal Maidens, who constitute in other lists 18 female warriors.
